28th JULY 8:30PM — The National Hurricane Centre continues to monitor Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC-9) and may upgrade this system to a Tropical Storm tonight or tomorrow.
Potential Tropical Cyclone means a disturbance that is not yet a tropical cyclone but which poses the threat of bringing tropical storm or hurricane conditions to land areas within 48 hours.
At 8pm Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine was located 14.2 degree north, 58.7 degrees west or approximately 621 miles east-southeast of the British Virgin Islands.
Movement is to the west-northwest at 25 mph, winds are 40 mph with higher gusts.
Forecasters still think PTC-9 has the possibility of becoming a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow.Tropical storm force type winds extend from the centre outward up to 230 miles to the northeast.Potential impacts
· Rainfall between 3 – 6 inches with maximum amounts of 10 inches in some locations.· Winds may increase to 50 – 60 mph; power outages are possible.
· Storm surge is possible sending debris in roads on southern shores.
