DDM PINS POLICE AND FIRE AS PART OF TSUNAMI READY RECOGNITION

DDM PINS POLICE AND FIRE AS PART OF TSUNAMI READY RECOGNITION

May 15, 20051780Views

In recognition of the
valuable support of its partners in the successful pursuit of TsunamiReady
recognition for the Territory, the Department of Disaster Management today
presented Superintendent St. Clair Armory of Royal Virgin Islands Police Force
with a TsunamiReady pin and TsunamiReady stickers to be placed on police
vehicles on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.

Supt. Armory was
instrumental in ensuring that the Control Room of the RVIPF could function
effectively as the Tsunami Warning Focal Point (TWFP) in the BVI.

The TWFP is critical
to TsunamiReady recognition because in the event that the threat of a tsunami
becomes imminent when the DDM office is closed, the TWFP will receive the
alert, notify the necessary emergency response personnel as well as warn the
public of the impending hazard impact.

A similar presentation of a TsunamiReady pin and
stickers for the fire tenders on the four main islands, was made to Chief Fire
Officer, Mr. Zebalon McLean. The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services
continues to be a key partner in the comprehensive approach to disaster
management that is spearheaded by the DDM.
