The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration has issued an El Nino Watch as part of its April climate prediction report.
El Nino Southern Oscillation-neutral conditions are expected to continue through spring, followed by a 62% chance of El Niño developing sometime in May-July 2023. For the August-October period, the chance of El Nino developing rises to more than 80%.
In the Atlantic, El Nino is associated with less-than-average levels of tropical storm activity.
NOAA also states that spring is the typical time for a shift in El Nino Southern Oscillation phase.
