The community is being advised to take the necessary precautions to ensure that their water supply is safe for all uses including drinking, cooking, hand washing and bathing.
Chief Environmental Health Officer, Lionel Michael said water in containers such as barrels, tanks, and drums should be made safe and free from micro-organisms (germs) or any other forms of contamination.
According to the Chief, preventing water borne diseases is important for good health. “The presence of contaminants in water may lead to adverse effects such as diarrhoea, vomiting, etc,” he said.
He further stated, “We want to share a guide that we feel will assist persons with making the water supply safer for their use. Using household bleach (Clorox) is one of the most effective ways to kill bacteria.”
Below is a table showing the amount of household bleach for use per gallon(s) of water.
