TROPICAL WAVE APPROACHING THE TERRITORY

TROPICAL WAVE APPROACHING THE TERRITORY

September 2, 20183151Views

September 2nd 2018 – The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has indicated that  moisture ahead of a weak tropical wave will move over the BVI today; however the axis of the wave will not pass until early tomorrow, at which time it will increase the chance of showers over these islands further.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services states that there is a moderate chance for showers this evening becoming more frequent tomorrow. Winds are from the East North-East between 9 to 18 miles with seas not expected to exceed 5 feet.

As the ground is heavily saturated, additional rainfall could increase the chances of flash flooding in the event heavy downpours become consistent.

Residents are encouraged to take the necessary precautions to help mitigate the effects of excess rainfall. Use caution when crossing ponded roads and be aware of falling rocks.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will provide more information on the wave as it becomes available. Please visit the DDM’s webpage at www.bviddm.com and subscribe for updates or like us on facebook at www.facebook.com/bvi.ddm.
